Cost of Accounting Software Services
Traditionally
the cost of accounting systems is split equally between hardware,
software and services. Services are further categorised into support
(queries that are usually resolved in under an hour) and longer-term
projects.
Usually support is charge on a fixed dollar per query basis. In
addition many vendors provide support contracts with unlimited support
during the contract period. Often support contracts are incorporated
into overall maintenance agreements, ensuring you receive the latest
software upgrades. The annual cost of such agreements can exceed 30%
of the original software, and should be carefully factored into the
decision to purchase a system.
The amount and frequency of support varies from user to user.
Whilst cost conscious users may prefer support on an as needs
basis, others prefer the fixed nature offered by a contract. Our
experience shows over 80% of support calls occur in the months
following installation. Once the system is bedded down and users
become familiar with it, support requirements declines dramatically.

Projects
are usually charged on a time basis (estimated hours x hourly rate),
with many providers happy to agree on a fixed project fee. For larger
projects, an upfront deposit is common practice.
